Good Afternoon, Here is our latest news: Ladders/leagues: We currently have 4 different leagues running with a variety of formats. This second round will end July 3rd. We will then have 2 weeks off, before the next round, July 22nd-Aug 26th. More information on the planned format for each event of this 3rd round will be forthcoming. Ladder/league “purchase” will be available through your account on our website, starting 9am, July 8th. Mowbray Park Court Repair: We addressed this with Parks & Rec again recently and reminded them that repairs were to have already happened. They are supposed be following up with the court installer. We will keep you updated on TR as soon as we hear anything. July 4th Breakfast: We are reviving a Mowbray Park tradition this year for the 4th of July. Instead of a First Friday social, we will be having a morning play event. Please bring a favorite breakfast item to share and start your holiday early, Thursday morning, with some socializing and pickleball play. Kent Island Classic: Sept 7/8th: This is our annual, public tournament co-hosted by QAC. Tournaments are basically a big, pickleball party with food, vendors and fun competition. Information on this year’s sponsors can be seen here. Tournaments are a great method of attracting attention, publicizing our sport and are key to luring potential investors, public and private, to get involved in our larger cause, building indoor courts. Events like this are the reason we have the beautiful Mowbray, Grasonville and Roundtop courts. These were all built in just the last 2 years because the sport was “seen”. We are offering age, gender & mixed brackets, all the way from 2.5 to 4.5. You can register to play at this tournament here. Key to success of this event is our volunteers. We will have more information on how you can help when we get closer to September. Annapolis Pickleball Club: Sept 27-29th: APC is hosting its annual tournament at Truxton Park. This tournament will have singles, gender doubles & mixed doubles. Please check their website for updates. Nominations/Elections: There will be 4 CPC Board of Directors positions available in the fall: president, secretary and 2 members-at-large. Please give this serious consideration as we would like to have more varied member participation. The “heavy lifting” has been done and it is time for additional input/guidance from our members. All our prior & current board members are very dedicated to this club’s success….so there is plenty of help for whomever is interested in taking on these jobs. Please contact Lena for additional information/assistance. Bike Path: QAC is involved in a project to link the South Island & Cross Island trails and to connect these to Centreville and eventually further north. You will see clearing/construction going on near Matapeake Elementary, Mowbray Park and Waterman Joes to help connect the 2 trails. The Bikeable Baltimore Region project is an initiative by the Baltimore Metropolitan Council to provide bike-able areas throughout the greater Baltimore area. QAC is receiving a substantial grant to assist with this long term goal. More information can be found here.
