Good Afternoon, Mowbray & Grasonville Court Repair: We have addressed with Parks & Rec issues at both parks. They will let us know when repairs are happening. Mowbray Park playground area is scheduled for improvement in the late fall. We will keep you updated on any changes that will affect pickleball….a good reason to be on TeamReach, as this is likely where that news will be posted. Ladder/leagues: Our 3rd round has started and will run through August 28th. A few spots are still available and can be purchased through your account on our website. PB 101/201: Our free clinics have been well received but attendance is dwindling in the heat so we will take the month of August off. Please check the calendar on our website to see our latest offerings. Ratings Clinic: Ever wonder where you fit in? We are in the process of organizing a ratings event, likely in September, which will be posted on our calendar; but in the meantime, please check out these resources to help you answer that question. Kent Island Classic: Sept 7/8th: This is our annual, public tournament co-hosted by QAC. Tournaments are basically a big, pickleball party with food, vendors and fun competition. Information on this year’s primary sponsors can be seen here. Tournaments are a great method of attracting attention, publicizing our sport and are key to luring potential investors, public and private, to get involved in our larger cause, building indoor courts. Events like this are the reason we now have the beautiful Mowbray, Grasonville and Roundtop courts. These were all built in just the last 2 years because the sport was “seen”. We are offering age, gender & mixed brackets, all the way from 2.5 to 4.5. You can register to play at this tournament here. Key to success of this event is our volunteers. We will have more information on how you can help when we get closer to September. Nominations/Elections: There will be 4 CPC Board of Directors positions available in the fall: president, secretary and 2 members-at-large. Please give this serious consideration as we would like to have more varied member participation. The “heavy lifting” has been done and it is time for additional input/guidance from our members. All our prior & current board members are very dedicated to this club’s success….so there is plenty of help for whomever is interested in taking on these jobs. These are administrative positions that do not require significant pickleball expertise, just a passion to offer the sport to our community. Please contact Lena for additional information/assistance.
