Good morning, Our first round of league play is finishing up and we are actively planning for the next round. As a result of your feedback, we have made some changes to tighten up both the level of play and the commitment expected from the players. We are always willing to hear your suggestions and change our offerings as needed. We are committed to evolving as our sport grows. Please remember that this is a 100% volunteer organization and we provide a variety of events for your $40. Not everything we do will fit everyone’s needs or schedules but hopefully there is something here for you. Leagues Participation in our second round of summer leagues will be available for purchase starting May 12th. These events will run May 27th-July 4th. You can log into your account on our website, CPC , and purchase a “Ladder” under the “Pages” menu. You will then be given access to one Doubles Ladder League in PB Den where you may sign up for individual dates. Please give us time to add you to sub-club (aka Ladder League) in PB Den…this is NOT an automated system and it will be Mother’s Day weekend. If you do not know which event is for you or would like to request a change in level, please contact Dave Haber. Each League has a $10 fee to cover the cost of court rental and software. All evening Leagues will begin promptly at 7pm. Our morning events begin at 9am. You will have the opportunity to sign up for a second Ladder League once we have given people ample time to sign up for their first choice. These are competitive leagues and require knowledge of the sport and physical ability. In an effort to be fair to all participants and captains, we are instituting some rule changes. All signup sheets will close 1 day prior to the event. Any changes made within the 24hour period prior to the event must be done by contacting your League Captain. Both of our Wed offerings require a minimum participation of 4 out of 6 weeks. The following is a list of the Ladder Leagues available for this 6-week round. Mon evening: Our highest level (3.5+) will be a Potluck of play. Our first event will be Major League Pickleball where teams of 3 or 4, depending on signup, will compete against each other in combinations of men’s, women’s & mixed doubles. There is no minimum participation commitment for this league. Potluck means we may be changing the format based on feedback and signups. Approval by player development staff may be required for this event. Tues evening: Our intermediate level will continue with a “Luck of the Draw” type format, with random court assignments and winners/losers moving up and down. Scores will not carry over week to week. There is no minimum participation commitment. Wed evening: Our below 3.0 level for those who are comfortable with pickleball scoring and want to compete. There will be a paper record of matches played and assistance available to enter scores into the PB Den website, using the Shootout, round robin format. PB Den will move players up & down, week-to-week based on their score differential (points earned/max.points in all rounds of play). For accuracy purposes this offering requires a 4 out of 6 week commitment and it can accommodate odd numbers of players. Please be aware that an absence, for any reason, results in a player moving down 2 spots (not 2 whole courts). More info on player/court movement can be found here: PB Den Shootout. Wed morning: For 3.25+ players. A Dupr score is helpful in determining your eligibility. PB Den will move players up & down, week-to-week based on their score differential (points earned/max.points in all rounds of play). For accuracy purposes this offering requires a 4 out of 6 week commitment and it can accommodate odd numbers of players. For all ladder/leagues: once you have access to a PB Den “sub-club” (aka Ladder League) please read the descriptor provided in “View Details.” This will give you a further explanation of the format of play. Each league has a “Captain” to whom you may direct specific questions. We require 24 hours notice for all cancellations. Players who are a “no show” without notifying the league captain at least 24hours prior to game day may be dropped from the league. Important Pickleball Den: If you are participating in a League, please be sure you have your notification settings on in the Den. All emails from the Den will go into your “Timeline” in the Den. If you enable “in-app notifications,” it will text you when there is a new entry. You can, of course, check the “receive club email” box as well. We are working on a morning offering for 3.0 & below. Hopefully we can make that happen but it takes volunteers to organize & run these events. Clinics We do offer monthly FREE clinics. Please watch for those on our website Calendar. May 18th still has some openings in Pickleball 101 & 201. These are skills & drill opportunities, with a focus on strategic play in PB201. Additional lessons and clinics can be scheduled through Dave Haber at Chesapeake Pickleball or through other coaches whose contact info can be found here.
