Pickleball is an active sport that sometimes requires emergency assistance. The more people on or near the courts who can provide basic emergency assistance, the better we will be as a club and community.

• The AED training date is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, 4 pm at the Kent Island Library, 200 Library Circle, Stevensville, Maryland 21666. (Map)

• This training is limited to 30 CPC members.

• Note: CPC members will receive reimbursement for the full signup fee upon completing the training.

An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is a portable electronic device used to help people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) — a condition where the heart unexpectedly stops beating effectively.

What Does an AED Do?

• It analyzes the heart’s rhythm.

• If needed, it delivers an electric shock (defibrillation) to help restore a normal rhythm.

• It provides voice prompts and visual instructions, making it user-friendly even for those without medical backgrounds.

Why Should People Get Trained in AED Use?

1. Saves Lives in Minutes

   • Survival rates drop by 7–10% for each minute without defibrillation.

   • AEDs combined with CPR can more than double the chance of survival.

2. Anyone Can Use It, But Training Boosts Confidence

   While AEDs are designed for public use, training helps users:

   • Act quickly under pressure

   • Combine CPR and AED use effectively

   • Avoid hesitation during an emergency

3. Fast Action Is Critical

   • Emergency services may take several minutes to arrive.

   • A bystander trained in AED use can be the difference between life and death.
